Ooops She Did It Again....
September 14th 09:37:10 PM

topmast_hillary.jpg S4's Chris Liakos wasn't the only person who caught Senator Hillary Clinton politicizing Katrina, the Washington Times did as well. "'People would say, "What am I going to do? Can I count on Social Security?" ' Mrs. Clinton said. 'And the answer would be, well, we'll have to check on the stock market.' The crack tickled the group, which opposes President Bush's plan to incorporate private accounts into the retirement system. Taking Mrs. Clinton's advice, we checked the stock market: Dow Jones Industrial Average on Aug. 24, three days before the storm hit: around 10,450; Dow Jones Industrial Average yesterday: 10,600. Looks like even disaster victims would do better playing the stock market than waiting for a check from the government, which hasn't exactly covered itself with glory for a job it is supposed to do well — disaster relief." Solvency and Choice.

As a New Yorker, I know the role America's financial markets play in the economic vitality of my state and the nation at large. I also understand the drain Washington D.C. enflicts on the American economy. Therefore, if I am confident that in any choice between Wall Street and Washington, Americans will benefit far more if they go with Wall Street.

I had put a shortcut to the "Students for Saving Social Security" website on my desktop, and I just came back here... Did you just recently re-design your site? (I was kind of surprised to see a weblog here... but maybe it was there when I was here last as well.) We had our first CR meeting last night [www.uisgop.com], and we are looking to get involved in issues-based advocacy; one of the issues we had in mind was Social Security reform. I love it when organizations like Young America's Foundation, the Leadership Institute and CR Chapters in other states, have sections on their websites with downloadable materials that we can use... I know that items like that can be made, rather easily, on the computer - and I have been doing a lot of that, since I became Chairman last year... But with all that is going on, in our student, extra-curricular, and personal lives - it is quite helpful to have some of these materials (such as flyers and handouts) already created. I am glad to see that your website has a section like that. I imagine that we'll be using some of that material this year. The compilation of student editorials may also be useful. Thank you so much for what you are doing. Please keep up the great work, and please let us know of anything that we can do, at the state university right here in the capital of Illinois, to support this cause.
