Many of you probably noticed that when Bush said, "Congress did not act last year on my proposal to save Social Security," Democrats applauded. Of course Bush's next line, "yet the rising cost of entitlements is a problem that is not going away," quickly quieted those Democrats.
RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie found the applause surprising. He said, "To see Democrats in Congress stand up and applaud the fact that our Social Security system is going bankrupt was remarkable to me."
