It's Not Over Until We Say It Is!!!
September 23rd 09:51:05 PM

Some anti-reform parties have already declared victory in the Social Security debate. Talk about jumping the gun. Young workers have too much to lose without Social Security reform. Contrary to what Washington has to say, this isn't a Democrat or Republican issue. It's a problem facing us all. We here at S4 say the debate is still on. We're non-partisan because the Social Security funding problem doesn't target just Democrats or Republicans: all of us young workers will lose equally. We're willing to wait for Congress to confirm a few Supreme Court nominees and come to the aid of Americans suffering in Katrina's wake. We're willing to wait because we can't afford not to. It is OUR retirement futures that are on the line.

Santorum: Holding Both Parties' Feet to the Fire
September 22nd 02:28:50 PM

"The vast majority of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle -- obviously, all of them on the other side of the aisle, and some of them on my side of the aisle -- are just saying, 'Well, this is not the politically best thing to do to talk about this issue; let's just wait until the crisis hits us between the eyes and then let [lawmakers then] deal with it.' I just think that's irresponsible, I didn't come here to dodge problems." Maybe Tom Reynolds could take notes.

Take the Time to Make Your Voice Heard
September 21st 08:46:03 PM

AARPpipedownstroller.jpg It's become clear that the only people capable of looking out for our future is us. Congress is too busy spending Social Security dollars to reform it, the AARP is too busy selling mutual funds to take an honest position on the issue, and Rock The Vote is too busy teaming up with the AARP. Luckily if young people and other reform-minded Americans make the time, just a few minutes a day or week, to take action, we can still compel Congress to secure our future. What you can do: 1) Sign Up 2) No matter how old you are Sign the Petition 3) Write a Letter to the Editor or Op-Ed We can help you. Email Us. 4) Write your Congressman and tell him or her the importance of reform. 5) Spread the word to friends, family, and classmates. Send this posting to at least 5 friends. Tell them that we're making the difference in this debate.

Think About It: Personal Accounts Increasing Competition AGAINST Wall Street
September 21st 11:55:39 AM

Matt Martin wrote a great piece in the Stanford Review on the Ownership Society. It included this gem: "Similarly, privatizing social security would create more competition for individuals' retirement accounts and thus drive investment companies to lower fees and increase returns. New competition forces the government to be more responsible with social security tax revenue and to no longer use surpluses from the deceivingly named Social Security Trust Fund to cover their deficits. What a novel idea! Social security taxes being used to finance social security programs. Who’d have thought it?! The end result would be better retirement options and more wealth for all Americans."
